A Smart Move

The Centro Plaza (formerly referred to as the Westside Multimodal Transit Center) will be a hub for various VIA transportation services, including an anticipated Austin-San Antonio commuter rail, inter-city bus service and taxi service. Located on the near West Side, the facility will improve accessibility to the city’s Central Business District, UTSA Downtown Campus and University Health System’s Robert B. Green Campus. The site will also include a modern plaza to facilitate route transfers, alleviate congestion and encourage new mixed-use development opportunities.

SmartMove 2040 Backup

SmartMove 2040 is the community-driven process by which VIA will develop its Long Range Plan (2040 Plan) through the year 2040. The 2040 Plan will be the guiding document for VIA’s long-term capital investments and operations and will be developed over time with data analysis and significant input from the general public, VIA’s customers, and key stakeholders.  The 2040 Plan will build off of the substantial effort completed from 2009-2011 that resulted in the 2035 Long Range Comprehensive Transportation Plan, which outlined a vision for the future of VIA.

The 2040 Plan will further define the high-capacity network while considering a more regional context.  The 2040 Plan will identify station areas along high-capacity routes, suggest land-uses for station areas, and identify the best configuration for underlying bus services in relation to high-capacity services.  Concurrent to the 2040 Plan development, the City of San Antonio will be coordinating closely with VIA as they develop a Comprehensive Plan and Strategic Multimodal Transportation Plan.
